Theatre That Reconnects TartArte Residency: practicing interspecies care and Kinship in Tuscany
What happens when participatory theatre enters into relationship with sea turtles, conservationists, volunteers, and a living coastline?
This summer, from 27 July to 3 August 2026, ImaginAction joins tartAmare and TheAlbero to host a unique residency on the Tuscan coast: Theatre That Reconnects.
Set in Marina di Grosseto, alongside the work of the Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, this week-long experience invites participants into a shared inquiry between people, place, and the more-than-human world.
Rather than treating theatre as a performance to be consumed, Theatre That Reconnects understands theatre as a way of listening. A way of sensing relationships, making visible our interconnectedness, and cultivating our capacity to respond collectively to the ecological and social challenges of our time.
Participants will join the daily rhythm of tartAmare’s conservation camp: accompanying nest-watch activities, supporting sea turtle care, and engaging with volunteers who dedicate themselves to protecting vulnerable coastal ecosystems.

Alongside this, we will explore an embodied methodology that weaves together four powerful traditions: Theatre of the Oppressed, Social Presencing Theatre, The Work That Reconnects, and Dragon Dreaming.
Together these practices create a space where gratitude, grief, imagination, and action can coexist; where personal stories become collective stories; and where collective stories can become pathways toward meaningful action.
Throughout the week, participants will co-create a participatory workshop and a small public performance for the local community, allowing art and conservation to meet as reciprocal practices of care.
At its heart, this residency is an invitation to slow down and ask:
What becomes possible when we stop seeing ourselves as separate from the ecosystems we inhabit?
In a world increasingly marked by ecological uncertainty, Theatre That Reconnects offers a simple but profound proposition: that reconnecting is not an abstract idea, but a practice. A practice of listening with our bodies, attending to place, and remembering that we are part of a larger living story.
We invite artists, educators, facilitators, social workers, activists, and anyone curious about participatory practice to come and listen with the sea.
