Jointly sponsored by the Society for Spirituality and Social Work (USA) and the Canadian Society for Spiritualilty and Social Work, this international conference is open to academics, professionals, practitioners and students with an interest in the role of spirituality in the healing and health of individuals and communities.
The theme of this year’s conference is Diverse Faces of Spirituality: Oasis of Tranquility and Empowerment, Crucible of Discrimination and Conflict. The conference program features noted authors as keynote speakers. Dr. Kenneth Pargament is author of The Psychology of Religion and Coping: Theory, Research, Practice; Spirituality Integrated Psychotherapy: Understanding and Addressing the Sacred; and co-editor of Forgiveness: Theory, Research, Practice. Dr. David Augsburger is author of Caring Enough to Confront; Hate-Work: Working Through the Pain and Pleasures of Hate; and Dissident Discipleship: A Spirituality of Self-Surrender, Love of God, and Love of Neighbor. Dr. Susan Cadell is Associate Professor and Director of Manulife Centre for health Living at Wilfrid Laurier University, and her research concerns positive aspects of stress and coping, particularly posttraumatic growth. The conference program also features nationally and internationally known key presenters. Brother Joseph Kilikevice is a founder and director of the SHEM Center for Interfaith Spirituality, and Hector Aristizabal is a creative director of ImaginAction. Academic papers and workshops feature noted scholars, and presenters and participants come from across the United States and Canada, as well as other countries.
