Campaign Story

Lukeko Gaun, A Village for Arts and Farming, established in 2018 in Bhukhel, Lalitpur, Nepal by ImaginAction Artist Gopal Aryal, inspires to become a model for sustainable and holistic community-led eco-tourism.  Despite being only a 2 hours drive from Kathmandu, the village remains hidden from most of the world, and the local community remains untouched by the development that has been taking place around the world. The main goal of Lukeko Gaun is to bridge the gap between the local community and the outside world whilst maintaining the organic manner of the community. It holds a vision of being a home for transformative learning journeys for Social Arts practitioners from around the world.

In ImaginAction, we believe that this current crisis moment is a time to imagine and act for new regenerative possible future for community, self and earth! This is why members of ImaginAction team would be offering discounts on workshops and training for those who will donate Before January 10th. We dream of Social Arts retreats and gatherings in Lukeko Gaun, Let’s make it happen together!

GOPAL’s CALL

I first dreamt this project in December 2015 in a workshop with 30 theatre practitioners in Senegal (which was my first time in Africa).

In October 2018, I was able to buy a piece of land in a village near Kathmandu to fulfil the dream of creating this centre. To buy the land I took a loan of 1,000,000 Nepali rupees (Approx. USD 10,000) from a bank with 14% interest thinking that I would clear the loan in a few months from my income (which is quite good at the time). With Covid-19, I lost all the earnings, and have a tough time paying for my family expenses and loan payments.

I raised via previous crowd-funding 2,675 USD and got help from friends and family, which helped a lot, yet, I haven’t been able to make the past five months, and the bank threatens to place on auction the land. I need to save this land to save my dream and make thousands of other people to dream. And for this, there is no way that I can do without your support, love and care.
