The joker has a crucial role in all Theatre of the Oppressed work. Inside a workshop room (s)he is a facilitator/difficultator taking care of the process and group dynamics. During a forum theatre play, the joker is responsible for the dialogue between the audience and the question asked by the play. The joker functions as a bridge between both, never losing track of the goal of the theatrical investigation.
How do you prepare actors to improvise from their character with integrity during forum scenes? How can one invite an audience of spectators to become spectactors willing to change the course of a play? How to maximize this opportunity to rehearse for reality? A joker is curious, flexible, creative, provocative and critical – all at the same time. Hector, an experienced and skilled joker himself, will share insights on the art of jokering.
If you want to continue your journey into the world of Theatre of the Oppressed, this is a unique chance to learn about jokering. If you have been a joker for some time, here there’s the opportunity to further enrich your own practice.
