Carol Gomez

Carol Gomez is the founder and executive director of Matahari: Eye of the Day, a national social justice organization that works with immigrants and communities of color to end violence and exploitation. Her award-winning organization facilitates women’s leadership and provides skills and support to communities organizing for safety and justice. She has over 20 years of work as an educator, workshop facilitator, community organizer, mediator, trauma crisis counselor, therapist, advocate and community researcher. She currently works with Casa de la Familia offering therapy to individuals and families who have been impacted by crimes of domestic or sexual assault or have lost family members to violence, whether to motor vehicle homicides or to shootings.
Carol obtained her B.A. in Women’s Studies & Int’l Development from Mt. Holyoke College and an MSW from Simmons School of Social Work. She has been adjunct faculty at Boston College School of Social Work and guest lectures at campuses across the U.S. She currently serves on the boards of United for a Fair Economy, and ImaginAction, has co-facilitated theatre workshops for the Youth Justice Coalition, and was appointed to the Governor’s Council on Domestic and Sexual Violence.
Carol was born and raised in Malaysia and immigrated to the US after completing her undergraduate degree in the US.
